STAAR Tests Cancelled

The State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (or STAAR) testing requirements for this school year have been waived.

“Governor Abbott’s waiving of STAAR EOC requirements is great news for educators and students at LHS and all across the state,” assistant principal Macie Thompson said. “With the school closures due to COVID-19, our school would not be able to prepare for these EOCs like we usually are able to. I was very happy to hear that Governor Abbott had waived this year’s requirements, and I know EOC-subject teachers were too.”

The waiver does not postpone these EOCs; it completely removes them as long as students receive credit for the course. For instance, an eleventh grader does not need to take the U.S History EOC test his or her senior year if they have passed that class this year.

“In lieu of reviewing and preparing for their STAAR tests, EOC-subject teachers can focus on teaching students through the online platforms we are currently using,” Thompson said. “The waiver of this year’s STAAR test requirements allow us all to focus on supporting teachers and students through the unusual circumstances we find ourselves in due to COVID-19.”
