Senior Creates Turkey Trot Logo

Senior Avalon Custer created the logo for the first annual Lindale Turkey Trot that was held on Thanksgiving. Photoshop teacher Lindsay Kelly had her students compete to create a logo for the contest last school year, and Custer won the competition.

“I’ve enjoyed art since I was a little kid, and digital art came naturally considering I also have an affinity for computers,” Custer said. “I never actually knew I got chosen until it was already on advertising, so it was kind of a pleasant surprise!”

Custer created the logo for the competition and the final touches were added right before the actual Turkey Trot. The logo depicts a sprinting turkey with a Lindale vest and a banner across the front that displays “Lindale.”

“To make the logo, I actually hand-drew the turkey, took a photo of it, and converted it into an item in Adobe Illustrator so my lines are all nice and smooth for coloring,” Custer said. “Then I think the Turkey Trot people actually colored it and added their own touches like the Lindale vest.”

Kelly’s photoshop class allows students to develop and hone their photoshop skills and have competed in similar competitions in the past. For instance, the class recently participated in the “Chewbacca Mom” Instagram contest where they photoshopped the “Chewbacca Mom” into strange scenes.

“The Photoshop class was so useful,” Custer said. “It was slow at first, but eventually we got to learn some incredibly useful things that have definitely developed my talents as a graphic designer.”
