Junior Nominated for Texas Player of the Week

Junior Jordan Jenkins has been nominated for Texas Football Player of the Week by head football coach Chris Cochran. This is his second run for nomination.

“It feels great, honestly,” Jenkins said. “I definitely have to keep it under my head, because it’s a pretty big thing being nominated for the whole state.”

Jenkins is competing against over ten other athletes who were also nominated for the award. He has previously received the Tyler Offensive Award and is known by his coaches and team to be a capable and inspiring presence on and off the field.

“Our head coach brought it up a couple of weeks ago that he was trying to nominate me, and again last week,” Jenkins said. “He really helped [get my name out there].”

Jenkins has scored 17 touchdowns over the season, and leads the district in scoring with 126 points. He will continue with the rest of the Lindale Eagle Football Team during their playoff games beginning this Friday.

“He has a great heart, and he’s a humble young man,” Cochran said. “He doesn’t like the attention, so it makes it really fun as his coaches and teammates when he has success because he always makes it about the team.”

Jenkins began playing football in his freshman year of high school. He has worked closely alongside Cochran since then to improve upon his talent.

“We’re really excited [for] him,” Cochran said. “Every time he steps on the field he gives us a big-time chance in the game, so I’m glad he’s on our side. He is one of the best human beings I have ever been around. He is a hard worker, really pays attention to detail, always wants to do exactly what we ask him to do to the best of his ability.”
