American Legion Post 15 hosted its second annual Chili Cook Off on October 26. Half of the profits went to two scholarships for seniors and the local veterans support fund.
“We have been hosting this cook off for the past two years,” Commander Randy Harmon said. “I enjoy socializing with everyone and having fun. Ya know, if it ain’t fun, people won’t want to come back.”
Contests for the best chili and the best salsa were held. The first place winner of the chili contest was Georgeanne’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Hold Onto Your Boots Scootin’ Wild West Chili.
“This is my second time to enter this chili cook off,” Georgeanne said. “It feels pretty good to win since I’m a newbie, and I made sure I donated my winnings back to the American Legion.”
A bake sale was also held, and local businesses displayed their wares around the chili booth.
“We plan to continue hosting this event for the years to come,” Harmon said. “Our hope is that we will have a much bigger turnout than we had this year. That will mean more contestants and more chili.”
