Volleyball Has Good Showing in Double Header

Last night the Lindale Lady Eagles hosted a dual match with Carthage and Quitman.  It was a packed house in the Eagles’ gym with matches taking place on all three courts. The Freshmen team lost both matches in close sets. Scores against Carthage were 25-27, 25-17, 23-25.  Scores against Quitman were 21-25 and 20-25.  The JV went 1-1 on the night.  They lost to Carthage three sets (23-25, 27-25, 25-27). Marleigh Thurman played solid defense, and Emily Havens setting and defense were helpful to the team’s effort.  After losing to Carthage in three close sets, the JV was ready for Quitman and handled them with no problem (25-8, 25-17).  Chelynn Palmer and Alondra Romero helped their team offensively for the win.

The Varsity Lady Eagles went 2-0 on the night, improving their record to 21-5, and swept both teams in three sets each.  Scores against Carthage were 25-22, 25-13, 25-22.  Leading the Lady Eagles at the net were Shelbi Steen (9 kills, 2 blocks, 8 digs), Brina Kuslak (6 kills, 5 blocks), and London Reue (5 kills, 3 blocks).  Libero Addison Haxton led the team defensively with 13 digs.  Setters Harleigh Thurman (16 assists, 6 digs) and Kalaya Pierce (10 assists) moved the ball around extremely well all night.  Scores against Quitman were 25-12, 25-12, and 25-14.  Leading the Lady Eagles at the net were Shelbi Steen (8 kills, 1 blocks) and Brina Kuslak (5 kills, 1 block).  London Reue and Hannah Knox chipped in 6 kills a piece.  Setters Harleigh Thurman (18 assists) and Kalaya Pierce (11 assists, 2 aces) moved the ball around well to keep Quitman’s defense on their toes.

The Lady Eagles will travel to Lufkin on Friday August 31st for a match with all three teams.  The Lady Eagles are home again Tuesday September 4th against All Saints and Friday September 7th against North Lamar.
