Convention comes to town

Lindale FFA members attended the Mineola District Convention at the Performing Arts Center January 14.

“The Mineola District Convention allows students the opportunity to select their own student leaders,” agriculture teacher Rebecca Harrison said. “Voting delegates hear speeches from District and Area officer candidates and select the students that will lead their organization for the next calendar year.”

The District talent contest is also held at the convention, where talented acts perform, and voting delegates vote for the winner.

“The talent competition was definitely nerve-racking, but once the music started, all the nerves seemed to slip away,” competitor Emma Harden said. “Competing helped me understand how important decision making is and not to put those decisions off until the last minute.”

District Convention is run by the current district officers. Senior Kayla Fields, President of the Lindale FFA, served as Mineola District Secretary.

“Being a District Officer was the best experience of my life,” Fields said. “It is so rewarding to know that you are making an impact on someone’s life. It is definitely an experience that I will never forget.”
