UIL Academics Kicks off Season with RUSH Event.

Students attended the UIL season kickoff on Wednesday, September 22 to get ready for the upcoming UIL season. Last year the Lindale High School teams won UIL state.

“It was really exciting to kick off the 2022 school year for UIL academics,” UIL coach Rory McKenzie said. “We’re really excited to get to work with our students and find new ways to improve.”

Students were called out of class to learn more about the upcoming UIL season. The students were able to talk to the coaches and ask questions and have a snack after the presentation.

“I think Rush went really well,” UIL coach Kari McKenzie said. “Some of my kids who were there as freshmen were talking about it being cool to see how much we have won and they want to get started.”

Students were also recognized for winning UIL State last year. They were called up to the front of the room and applauded for their accomplishments.

“To be called down and announced as a state champion is really nice,” Junior Kylie Hester said. “Not only are you able to show that all your hard work has been successful, you’re able to represent your team and everything you’ve done.”

There are many UIL events dealing with mathematics and science. These include Accounting which is coached by Mrs. Galaz, Calculator Applications, Math, and Number Sense which are all taught by Mrs. Sembritzky, Science, and Robotics which are both taught by Mr. Walton.

The team members I have met with so far have all been so excited and enthusiastic about being a part of something great,” UIL coach Stephanie Sembritzky said. “I am looking forward to working with the math team to be even more productive this year.”

There are also a few technological UIL events which include Computer Applications, and Computer Science which are coached by Mrs. English, and theatrical design which is coached by Mrs. McKenzie.
