4th Annual Big Art Day Coming Tuesday

The 4th annual Big Art Day will be held at the high school March 2 from 5-7:30 pm. The theme of the art being shown is “France.”

“One of the things I like most about Big Art Day is it’s a great opportunity for our Art I and Advanced Art students to actually get hands-on experience as an art instructor, which is not something they get to do in their everyday setting,”  art teacher Kari McKenzie said. “But they’re the facilitators. We’re just there to oversee and administer.”

The event is open for K-12 students and it will be focusing on showcasing the different levels of art. All of the art follows one theme, and the higher level students will be running the event.

“A few years ago we decided that we want to expose the community to art from other places other than just Northeast Texas,” McKenzie said. “So choosing foreign countries and choosing foreign artists really helps us expose them to something they don’t know specifically from the art world that they’ve experienced.”

Families and other attendees are asked to make specific reservations to the event. The QR code [found below] can be used to register.

I am a firm believer that if you want to really know about something, learn how to teach it to others,” art teacher Rebecca Harrison said. “When our students leave Big Art Day, I hope we are all a little bit smarter and a little more in love with Art.”
