Lady Eagles Tied for 1st At Mid-Season

Lady Eagles Tied for 1st At Mid-Season

Girls basketball is past the middle of their season and is going forward into the second round of district play. Their record for the season is currently 17-4 overall with the recent win over Spring Hill.

“At this point, we’re halfway through district . . . which puts us in a three way tie with Bullard and Chapel Hill for first place,” girls head coach Daniel Devisscher said. “We really put up a great defensive performance by applying high pressure to a high powered offense and we’re very excited about moving forward into the second round of district.”

The Lady Eagles have pushed through pre-district and the first round of district to reach where they are now. Every game at this point means a chance to get ahead or fall  out of the lead.

“Our schedule this year was difficult,” Devisscher said. “I knew the girls needed that to prepare us for district and hopefully our run in the playoffs. The girls have been practicing hard and they’re ready to prepare so I’m excited to see what is going to happen.”

Teams compete in district to make it to the second round, then eventually the playoffs. Losses in district mean the possibility of getting knocked out all together.

“It’s been a really good year for us with our only losses coming from state ranked teams in their divisions,” Devisscher said. “We have beat so many good teams and that list goes on, I mean we have played so many really good basketball schools and we were able to get those wins because the girls are really playing together.”

The Lady Eagles have worked hard to make it this far and will continue in the second round of district. Their 5-1 record is keeping them in the game alongside Chapel Hill and Bullard.

“We have to bring our best every game in order to get us where we want to be,” Devisscher said. “Our team has a common goal and I feel really good about that as a coach. The girls just want to take this thing and see how long we can make our season once it’s all over.”
