Teacher Receives Film Award

Career and technology teacher Neda Morrow received the Stars of Tomorrow Film Award from Sam Houston State University (SHSU) for Excellence in Media Production Education over the summer. Morrow’s  audio/visual team submitted multiple short films to film festivals across the United States last spring, and 2019 graduate Kaylee Rodriquez’s film won an award at SHSU as well.

“I am very honored to receive this award because it really shows how hard the audio/video advanced students worked last year,” Morrow said. “They made some awesome films, and I am proud to be their mentor.”

Last year the audio/visual team created many different styles of film, including music videos, documentaries, and narrative films. They used video and audio equipment provided by the school and participated in off-site filming.

“Being a part of the audio visual team last year was such a blast,” senior Jude Ratcliff said. “I really felt like I was able to work on projects I enjoyed at my own pace, surrounded by people who I continue to talk to today even after they’ve graduated. The environment feels more like a gathering of friends than it does work.”

The audio/visual course is still in its early stages and is a part of the high school’s  career and technology department.

“Mrs. Morrow is a fantastic teacher, a seasoned veteran,” CTE director Berryman said. “She knows what she wants, and we just provide that support.”

The advanced audio/visual team will continue to produce films and send them to film festivals and compete in UIL. The team is also planning on producing local commercials and as well as sports and artistic promotions.

“We have a lot planned for the AV class this year,” Ratcliff said. “I’m very excited to show Lindale what we have in store for the coming year. We’re working with a whole new staff this year, so we have a constant stream of fresh ideas and raw talent.”
