Boys Soccer Makes Playoffs

Boys varsity soccer will play in the first round of playoffs at eight p.m. tonight at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium in Tyler. They will be competing against John Tyler.

“Playoff games are always so exciting because you never know what’s going to happen,” head coach Jason Lawless said. “You can either lose in the first round or go all the way to state, so we will try to go as far as we can.”

I am most excited about making a name for ourselves. It’s a humbling experience that I’m thankful to be able to go through my senior year with my team.

They first clinched a spot in the playoffs after a game they won 4-0 against Sulphur Springs on February 15. They won 8 times and lost 7 times throughout the season.

“I am most excited about making a name for ourselves,” senior Mason Hilton said. “It’s a humbling experience that I’m thankful to be able to go through my senior year with my team.”

In June, they began to practice for the season at soccer camp at Eagle Stadium. They also had multiple scrimmage games in the winter to prepare for the upcoming season.

“This is my last year playing, so I am excited to hopefully be a part of a team that takes us deep into playoff contention,” senior Logan Toon said. “Playing in the playoffs is always an honor and it is encouraging knowing that my town will be behind me as I play.”

Update: The team lost 3-1 in overtime against John Tyler.
