Theatre Serves Up a Fundraiser

The theatre department hosted a Spud Supper to fundraise.

The theatre department hosted a “Spud Supper,” for the community on October 19. This potato dinner served as a fundraiser for the department and for individual students.
“The Spud Supper empowered our students to raise money,” director Kari McKenzie said. “I think [the students] did a great job. They were personable, they were organized and they worked well with the jobs we gave them.”
Each student was able to sell tickets to raise money for their personal accounts. That money can help pay for Thespians Society dues, makeup for shows and/or for any trips the department takes.

“I learned that people will come together as a community and support the high school [students],” senior Julia Austin said. “I loved being able to serve food for the people who came as well as selling t-shirts.”
While the organization of the event was done by the booster club, the students served and worked the dinner. They sold shirts, made plates, filled drinks and waited on the diners.
“Theatre is a way for kids to express themselves,” senior Martin Velasquez said. “More money gives the department more opportunities for materials for the kids to work with.”
