Health Science Class Creates Anatomy Posters

Students in career and technology teacher Sally Clemmon’s health science class are creating anatomy posters this week. The posters will be hung in the hallway outside of the classroom on September 7.

“The posters that the students make in my health science class at the beginning of each year is a vocab list of medical terminology that relates to the human body,” Clemmons said. “I think that there are [around] forty terms.”

Each group of students chooses a character, such as Spongebob, Tigger or CatDog and draws the outline of the character with the organs and body parts labeled. They have to label each part with the Latin root and the English meaning.

Making the posters was a really good way to bond with my classmates.

“It is a fun project, and I think it is a good introduction to what medical terminology is and what they will have to do in this class,” Clemmons said. “ We also have a vocab quiz at the end so that hopefully they have learned the terms.”

Every year students enjoy the project as a way to get comfortable with the class. The terms they learn will help them understand the class for the entirety of the year.

“Making the posters was a really good way to bond with my classmates, learn the medical terms and get the assignment done,” junior Kailey Cloud said. “I made some new friends while learning about the body system.”
